Just a quicky post with the recipe for my smoothie this morning. I’m running out the door to see diving at the Pan Am Games, so excited! I wanted to bring something really filling and yummy with me and I had to be a little creative because I ran out of protein powder but it tastes awesome.
Hemp seeds are rich in Omega 3 & 6 EFA, good for brain & heart health and reducing inflammation. Chia seeds are super high in fibre, Omega 3 and manganese, a mineral that helps your body use nutrients. So amazing! Oh She Glows has a great, quick recipe for a chia fresco that is really refreshing and an amazing way to get your chia!
Cacao nibs are energizing, full of fibre and antioxidants. Antioxidants help fight off free radicals which cause damage that can result in cancer. A really good reason to eat chocolate! I love avocados, they are full of healthy fat and after a week of eating them tell me your hair and skin doesn’t feel amazing. Lastly I added chaga powder. This is something I learned about this year from Jessica, the owner of the Raw Chemist in the Junction. I went into check out her place last summer, which is amazing, when I was going through chemo treatments and she gave me some to take home. Basically she told me it is an incredibly potent nutritional food that can help heal the body and is incredibly high in antioxidants, helpful for someone with cancer. There are other ways of consuming it, most popularly as a tea but I tend to throw it in my smoothie. Hope you enjoy this smoothie as much as I do, it really is a meal in a glass.
1 banana (frozen or not – up to you)
1/2 ripe avocado
3 tbsp organic hemp seeds
1 tbsp organic chia seeds
i tsp chaga powder
2 tbsp cacao nibs
2 tbsp organic natural peanut butter
1 tsp cocoa powder
drizzle of maple syrup*
1 cup + more as needed almond milk**
*I added this because my banana wasn’t super ripe, you could forego it if you have a sweeter banana
**I find with avocado the amount of liquid varies.
be well xo.
